Hello Amanda & list:

I am a blind clinical social worker and have been practicing sinse 1980. I have worked in child welfare, with chronically mentally ill adults, with homeless mentally ill and substance dependent people, in nursing and assistive living residences, and, presently for the past 17 years, in a child & adolescent outpatient clinic associated with a hospital. I do have a small private practice. You are correct, the first job is the most difficult to achieve, after that the subsequent ones are easier.

Of the 11 people I currently supervise toward licensure, two are blind folks employed in this little city, Daytona Beach.

My suggestion, be proud of your educational experiences, your student internships, and innate abilities. Fortify yourself with some of the writings of Kenneth Jornnigan, a former NFB President. Then, become your own best advocate. Go into a job interview with the idea of what you have to offer the program, not to seek employment. There is a difference.
