Subject: [humanser] Questions about Transitioning from Grad School to Career
as a Therapist

Hello everyone,

I am hoping to graduate with my Master's in Clinical Mental Health
Counseling in December. I am excited and also very nervous given the
experiences I have had with my practicum and internship and am writing to
see if any therapists or psychologists would be willing to speak with me
about navigating the transition from grad school to career.
Here are some of the questions I am considering, though there are more.

1. How do you recommend discussing accessibility and accommodation concerns
in the interview process?

2. How have you navigated productivity requirements if there were
accessibility concerns?

3. If your agency has used assessments on a regular basis as a part of their
standard care to measure client distress, symptomology, risk items, etc.,
and those results or comparison charts were not accessible, how would you
proceed?

4. What are the potential challenges and benefits of various settings,
especially for a blind therapist? For instance, I imagine that home-based
therapy could be doable but a lot harder given transportation concerns and
other considerations.

5. What have been some of your ideal accommodations or work-arounds?
What technology have you found most useful for note-taking, tracking time
accurately, etc.?

Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from folks.

All the best,

Sarah
