I worked at a center for independent living for a number of years with a Voc rehab degree where there were several people there with social work degrees. and I worked before hand at the commission for the blind before getting my second Master’s degree in Vocational rehabilitation.
Some states let you work vow rehab with a social work master's degree, and some states don't.
Some might higher you, with that social work degree, but they may make you take the 18 hours necessary to sit for the VR certification.
some might train you just how to work at their agency, but you can't get a job elsewhere, because that is only good at that particular agency.

No matter what, I would suggest either a masters in Voc rehab, or the 18 hours necessary to get your VR certification.
Our Voc rehab agency, and the commission for the Blind in Columbia would hire people and let them work, but they had to get the Master's degree.
Most of those folks already worked with the agency in question, so they have a foot in the door.

The center for independent living
Has 5 core services.
Advocacy, Independent living skills, information and referral, Communication education, and Peer to peer support.
If you have any more questions, just ask.
 Thanks,

Justin

Subject: [HumanSer] Introduction: I'm new to the list

Hello,
My name is Sidney. I'm a 20-year-old college student living in Illinois.
I've been a part of the NFB for a little bit now; I'm in the Nabs division, and am a part of the NFB of Illinois.
I'm currently attending college, majoring in social work. I'm a Sophomore in college, and am still finishing out my gen eds classes. This semester should hopefully be my last semester of gen eds. I'm currently taking 5 classes this semester, and one of them is intro to social work.
I'd love to hear from any of you who are either later on in the career, or later on in your major, getting closer to going out in the workforce.
I know social work is a very broad field, so in particular, I'm thinking of working with youth and young adults either doing counseling services, or providing services, like outreach to others.
Can you also be a VR counselor with a social work degree? I have thought of that as well.
Kindest regards and I'm excited to hear from you all on here,

Sidney
