Our next parents seminar planning meeting will be on Sunday 1/25 at 7:30.
The agenda and other information is below. Please feel free to call into
this meeting. It is of course an open meeting. We want this to be an
awesome seminar.

Here are the notes from last time to refresh everyone's memories.
Parents Seminar committee meeting
January 12, 2009
Those in attendance:
Debra Stein, Carmen Dennis, Aracelli Avina, Patti Chang, Bill Reif, Bob
Gardner, David Meyer, Denise Avant, Kelly Doty, Mary Grunwald, Le Ann Mayne.
Conference theme: Their future begins with us.
Logoes: Following some discussion it was decided to include the nfbi logo
and a picture of Alex Gamino reading braille so long as Nelli Gamino
approved.
The press release with appropriate logos will go out once a contract for the
hotel has been signed. This contract is currently being negotiated.
Bob anticipates that the contract will be signed next week.
The flyer will include the press release plus a summary of activities to
take place.
Application: The application will be similar to that which was done for the
student seminar withan additional question concerning whether or not any
children would be attending and if so, how many.
Google group: Bill and Aracelli will work on setting up a google email group
for committee members.
Conference fees: After some discussion it was decided to charge a fee of $25
for adults $10 for children 12-18 and $5 for children under 12.
This is based upon a cap of 70 participants including committee members and
presenters.
Applications should be sent to Kelly. Information on the applications will
be shared with Debbie
Carmen and Nellie who will work on such things as mentoring assignments.
Release forms should accompany the application.
Pod casting: Portions of the seminar will be podcast including lectures.
Conference room should include a lecturn type podium. The Chicago chapter
will provide microphones and other sound equipment.
Press coverage: The press release will be a general announcement about the
conference. The flyer will be more specific about activities included as
part of the conference.
The press release will go out to a major press contact in ten cities.

list of agencies to be covered.
Debbie and Carmen will come up with a list of papers to contact.
Agenda: Program items should include a presentation on ieps. This would
likely be from approximately 9:30 till noon. The lunch will include speakers
talking about their own presentations and perhaps positive experiences from
a parent.
Afternoon might consist of discussion groups. Socialization is one area that
might be covered.
The conference will go from approximately 9:00 to 4:00.
Afternoon sessions will be on socialization, technology and other tools such
as braille, cane travel, etc.
Handouts: Le Ann will be in charge of looking into low priced useful items
that might be given to participants. We will also provide handouts including
resource lists.
Possible speakers: Carey Gillmer first choice, Barbara Cheatle second
choice, Steve Jacobson third choice.
Setting an agenda: Debbie Dave Carmen and possibly Nellie will plan the
agenda.
Youth activities: Kids would be involved in the morning iep session and a
breakout session in the afternoon.
Continental breakfast will begin at 8:00 and run till 9:00. Patti will put a
question concerning the continental breakfast on the application.
Teen room will be booked for the entire day. Applicants should also declare
a choice for lunch.
We will have the teen room all day.
Nellie will be in charge of kid camp.
The next meeting will be January 25, 7:30 P.M.
