The winners of the NFB Braille Readers Are Leaders 2010-2011 contest were announced on March 16.  And we in Illinois had winners!  

For adults, there were four categories -- beginner, intermediate, advanced, and expert -- with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each for pages read.  The contest went from Nov 1, 2010 to Jan 4, 2011.  And of course, you recognize January 4 as the birthday of Louis Braille.  

In the Beginner category, Kelly Doty placed 3rd!

In the Intermediate category, Lois Montgomery placed 2nd!

Both Kelly and Lois were members of the LIFE Group, one of the two teams formed in Illinois to compete in the adult Team of the Year award.  Unfortunately, however, the LIFE Group didn't win that award.  

So . . . out of 12 award winners in the adult categories, we in Illinois had 2 winners.  That's one-sixth  of the winners.  Not bad considering we're one-fifttieth  of the states.
