Hello, everyone. Stop raking those leaves and join your fellow Federationists at our monthly meeting on Saturday, November 12. It may be chilly outside, but the company and conversation will warm you up! Plan to join us!

THIS MONTH'S MEETING

Our next meeting will be held on Saturday, November 12th. at 1:30 PM, at the South Moline Township Center at 637 17th. Avenue in East Moline.

Please bring your left-over Community Days booklets and the money you have collected from selling the booklets to this month's meeting. Pat Olson will be collecting these and will be tallying the number of booklets sold. A prize will be given for the person who sells the most booklets.

Our program this month will have a theme: "expectations." As blind people, what does society expect of us? What do our friends and family expect of us? What do we expects of ourselves? What are our capabilities, and how "normal" can our lives be? Come, and join in the discussion. Come and listen to the NFB answers to these questions.

We heard from those who attended our NFBI state convention in Rock Island the weekend before. All agreed it was a great convention with both interesting and informative moments.

We also had chapter elections. The results were: Bob Gardner, president; Patrick Olson, vice- president; Lois Montgomery, treasurer; John Tebockhorst, secretary; Don Carey, board member; Larry Hines, board member; Donna Miles, board member. Thanks to all who agreed to serve.

Please submit your favorite recipes. You can give written recipes to me at the chapter meetings, send them email (address in letterhead), or mail them to me at: P.O. Box 191, Hampton, IL 61256. Thanks! Nancy

I don't know about you, but I am beginning to think about Thanksgiving and what I'm going to take to our get-together. I have 2 salad recipes that sound really good. The first one, "Cranberry Pecan Fruit Salad", was submitted by Pat Olson. The second one, "Lemon Salad" (Such a fancy name!), I found in a church newsletter. Hope you enjoy both of them.

Cranberry Pecan Fruit Salad

Ingredients needed : 1(14 oz.)can whole berry cranberry sauce, 1 (11oz.)can mandarin oranges, drained; 1 medium green apple, chopped; ½ cup fresh blueberries, 1 teaspoon grated orange zest, ¼ cup pecan pieces and 1 cup mini marshmallows.

Mix cranberry sauce, oranges, apple, blueberries, and zest. Cover and chill until serving time. Add nuts and marshmallows just before serving.

Lemon Salad

2 small pkgs. lemon jello

1 cup boiling water

1 cup cold water

1 - 8 oz. can crushed pineapple, undrained

1 can lemon pie filling

8 oz. Cool Whip

Dissolve jello in boiling water. Add crushed pineapple. Add cold water. When partially set, add can of lemon pie filling. Serve with a dollop of Cool Whip on top.

And, here is a bonus recipe . . .

Elephant Stew

You will need the following ingredients - 1 elephant (medium size), 2 rabbits, salt and pepper to taste, and brown gravy (lots of it).

Cut the elephant into small bite-size pieces. This will take you about 2 months. Reserve the trunk. Cover with gravy and cook over a kerosene fire for about 2 weeks at 465º. This will serve about 3800 people. Add the rabbits, but only if necessary, as most people do not like hare in their stew.
