So, yesterday I took the pace paratransit bus to the bank. The driver asked
me where I would like to be dropped off , and I told him the the entrance
was at the corner of Belmont and cicero ave. when we arrived he offered to
assist me to the door, I said ok, as we walked to the door I noted that the
traffic was only on my left side , and then came a step-up. I told him he
was at the wrong place. He stated that I was wrong, we were at the bank. I
politely informed that he was at the walkup and drive-in center, not the
main bank. After a little discussion we boarded the van and went to the
main bank across the street, he wanted to know how I knew we were at the
wrong place and I tried to explain about the the traffic noise and the
step-up curb at the walk up center, I don't think he got it. We all have to
be alert to our surroundings at all time, and let our long cane tell what is
going on in front of us. I knew that there was no step-up at the main bank.

Subject: [il-talk] a funny story

Hi all. I just wanted to share a funny story that happened today. My mom was
here visiting today and she dropped me off at the bank, or so I thought. She
was giving me verbal directions from her car and she told me that the door
to the bank was on the left. From the moment I walked into the building, I
knew something was wrong. The inside of the building had a different smell
than the bank and there was a chime sound when I opened the door. Then, the
lady behind the desk asked if I had an appointment. I asked what building
this was and she said it was medical center. I explained I was looking for
the bank and she said it was right next door. As I was coming out of the
building, my mom had gotten out of the care and I had heard her sa she was
sorry but she guided me to the wrong door. Michael was in the car with her.
Michael was still waiting in the car so after my mom had gone back in the
car and I found the door to the bank, Michael said, "Grandma, why did you
send Mommy to the doctor's office?" After I did what I had to do at the bank
and came back out the door, I jokingly told my mom that that was the last
time I'll rely on her for verbal directions. All three of us had a good
laugh about what happened. This was one instance where I was grateful that I
have good travel skills and that I was aware enough of my surroundings in
order to know what was going on.
