Emergency situations are stressful and difficult for anyone, but if vision
loss or another disability is involved, special considerations should be
made.  Second Sense's new emergency preparedness workshop, Hope for the
Best, Prepare for the Worst, focuses on the things people can do to be as
prepared as possible.  

 

Rachael Eschbach, our certified orientation and mobility specialist,
provides tips and strategies for a safe evacuation.  Also joining us for
this important workshop is veteran firefighter and fire safety officer,
Preston Roberson from the Chicago Fire Department.  Firefighter Roberson
will discuss what individuals can do to help first responders in an
emergency situation so everyone can be as safe as possible.  

This workshop helps individuals prepare by: 

*	understanding the importance of basic mobility skills, 
*	learning protective techniques,
*	being familiar with the inside and outside of the home environment,
*	assembling an emergency bag and
*	registering with local municipality emergency databases.
