Text You then use "AIRA App" or "Be my Eyes". Explain these options can be costly or not as on demand as we like. So Texting once Van pulls up is a must, then you can use your phone with the above apps.

Subject: [il-talk] Problem with Schaumburg dial a ride

Hi all. I am writing because I would like to discuss a recent problem with the Schaumburg Dial Ride. Plain and simple: quiet buses. You cannot hear them pull up unless you're standing at the curb. And when they do pull up, they sound like cars.

On Monday, I took a trip to the bank and back. I was able to hear the dialer ride pull up at my street because I was standing at the curb. However, there was no way for the bus to get into the parking lot or close to the door of the bank to pick me up. Normally, I would just listen for the loud engine of the bus and make my way over to it. That is impossible now with the quiet busses. Long story short, I had to get cited assistance to find the vehicle. In my opinion, this is a step backwards. When I talk to a supervisor and suggested that they could blow the horn, she said oh we're not allowed to do that. Her best solution was to call me 10 minutes before a trip to let me know that the bus will be there in 10 minutes. OK, but it doesn't solve the problem of how to find the bus in real time. I contacted the senior manager of transportation and we will be having a meeting on May 20. What I'm wondering is if anybody has any ideas of solutions. Unfortunately, the buses are owned by Pace. What could be a realistic audio component? Could it be as simple as the driver blowing the horn? Or could it be as complex is adding something to the bus that talks? Like what they have in the CTA or pace buses? I would like to be armed with information when I walk into this meeting so any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Leslie
