This is a great opportunity for our students. Our Research Advisory
Committee has already approved related studies.

Help us raise awareness of accessibility!

Michele Williams, an accessibility specialist and researcher at Pearson
Education, is looking for a few blind and low vision students in the Chicago
and Urbana area, ranging from middle school to college, for a unique video
project. Students should use some form of assistive technology to navigate
the computer, such as a screen reader, refreshable braille display, and/or
screen magnification software. Participants will receive a $150 Amazon.com
gift card for their time.

How you'll make an impact

You and other blind and low vision students will work with Michele to help
create a first-person video explaining how you use a computer. For an
example, here
<https://protect-us.mimecast.com/s/pfggCZ6m5AIj2XkhzNzPL?domain=urldefense.p
roofpoint.com> 's a YouTube video of Tommy Edison, a blind film critic,
explaining his screen reader.

Your video will be used to educate Pearson employees and the general public
on what it means to make accessible technology. During the sit-down, Michele
will briefly interview you about your disability then have you demonstrate
typical computer activities including surfing the Web and using an online
education product. You will also discuss and demonstrate what makes
technology either easy or difficult to use with your assistive technology.
The videographers anticipate approximately 2 hours to shoot the video with
some phone or video chat interaction with Michele beforehand to nail down
what is demonstrated.

Get in touch

Michele is planning to be in Illinois during the week of September 16th;
exact times and locations are somewhat flexible to accommodate all video
subjects. If you are interested, please reach out to Michele Williams at
<mailto:mawilliams at pearson.com> mawilliams at pearson.com for more information
to see if you will be a good fit.
