It might be helpful to speak with your congressman too. I would ask for a supervisor and try other avenues as well.

It may well take several blind people to call and ask about the accessible voting option. The flier for blind voters to use is now on our website. The Illinois State Board of Elections is strongly urging all elections authorities to sign on as the right to vote accessibly is provided under the Help America Vote Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Some of the authorities may not sign on right away until they understand this is a legal right. Your clerk may not even know about the option and the absolute need to abide by the law.

I tried to contact the Rock Island board of elections. I received a very curt response from the clerk there. I identified myself as the president of the national Federation of the blind Black Hawk chapter. I asked if there was anyway that a blind person could vote. Privately and independently but I quickly got the reply that no we don’t have any braille ballots and no we don’t have any plans to have electronic voting.
