Talk on the web says the WeWalk App is the current best Android and Apple
app and it is free.  To see a  demo simply type in Youtube "The Blind Life".
On Sams channel he has an excellent demo of the WeWalk App.  It does not
require the WeWalk cane.

Be Sure to keep the WeWalk word as one word, the search wants to split the
word into 2 words.

This app finds nearby, transportation, calls restaurants,  Uber, and much
more.

Hi Todd,

A source of good information about apps which are accessible is the website
www.applevis.com. There is a forum where users can ask questions as well as
blog posts, articles, and links to other sites with useful information. When
you get a GPS app make sure it is compatible with the model of phone you
have. You may have to do some research. As Patti indicated, GPS isn't a
substitute for a cane. A cane is a great low-tech mobility aid and will
always be relevant.

Hi Todd, I sometimes use blind square. If I just want to get somewhere,
telling Siri to "navigate to {insert address} is enough. When I am in an
unfamiliar setting, I sometimes call AIRA which is a paid service with live
agents who look through your camera phone. For something short you can also
use live volunteers with BeMyEyes. Hope this is helpful. One cavat none of
these can substitute for a long white cane or guide dog. Rather they
supplement our tools.
