Greetings,
Last night the Chicago Chapter Legislative Committee held its March
meeting. We discussed a variety of key topics that we plan to address in a
future meeting with the Commissioner for the City of Chicago's Mayor's
Office for People with Disabilities. Including a topic that we will be
seeking feedback from members of the Chicago Chapter. Our next meeting will
take place on Monday, April 5, at 7pm on Zoom and all are welcome to
attend. Zoom meeting details can be found after my signature line and the
meeting minutes follow.
All the best,
Kira

Review
Kira reviewed meeting with city officials. We are concerned and want
materials in accessible formats. We will set up a time to meet with
Commissioner Arfa to talk.
Dave reported that ICB would like to be a part of any upcoming mtg.
Upcoming meetings Issues for City of Chicago
Autonomous vehicles
We would want to be able to operate autonomous vehicles. We want to get
ahead start on discussing this with the City of Chicago. We need to see
where the City of Chicago is with audible signals.
Paratransit issues to seek her support.
CTA Issues
Paratransit and TAPP programs are working to use Ventra App. Not quite
there yet with Ventra and Paratransit and TAPP. We want phone access to use
paratransit and TAPP.
General background
We will start with Commissioner Arfa at our upcoming meeting and then will
branch out to Amy Serpe. Right now, Nick Robertson is assigned to serve as
our representative on the CTA committee.
Steve should make the connection with CTA after we talk with Commissioner
Arfa.
We will want separate meetings – one with the City of Chicago, Commissioner
Arfa, and another with Amy Serpe of CTA.
Time frame and participants in a meeting with Commissioner Arfa
Commissioner Arfa mid-April. Don’t overwhelm that mtg. We are thinking 2 or
3 people – one of those to be Steve H. who can cover general
transportation. Another should be Debbie Stein who is an expert on
scooters. Debbie S. serves on a national committee dealing with scooters.
Denise Avant is probably the third candidate and would cover cruise. We
will not open it up to the public to avoid overwhelming participants.
We will want to talk about the Cruise sponsorship and bring up our
self-driving vehicles.
We are going to talk about phone access for TAPP and paratransit too.
Kira should be there to introduce attendees and Denise should request the
meeting. Afternoon is preferred.
Stories
We will collect stories via IL-TALK, fanout, and chapter meetings.
Debbie Pittman will draft questions by April 1, send to the committee, and
then send to IL-Talk.
Dave will include in the chapter announcements as well.
We will ask for stories at the Chicago Chapter meeting during the Chicago
Chapter legislative committee report. We will tell Chicago chapter members
we need two sentences at most for our quotes. If they have more they can
call Steve Hastalis. We will stop after we get the first five. Patti agreed
to write down what we get.
Next meeting April 5 7:00.
