[IL-Talk] Treated Like a 2 year old

We spend a great deal of energy trying to educate people, and of course this
is important; but for our own mental health it's crucial for us to find ways
to react in these situations so that we stay in control and aren't undone by
the stress. What coping strategies are we using? What seems to work best?

If a wait person asks the person I'm with, "What would she like to order?" I
answer myself and explain what I want. Sometimes the person I'm with might
say, "Ask her," which always helps. Wait staff count on making eye contact
with people as they go around the table taking orders, and without it they
are at a loss.

I just posted on FB last week that I was tired of being treated like I was
two. Between the dehumanizing habit of talking about us and grabbing us
without permission, it is a wonder we don't spend more time just plain
angry.

Hello all,

I was out with my Achilles guide for my three mile walk along the lake
front. Every time I go out, there is a lady speeding by on a bike and she
always calls out greetings to people. Anyway, after many weeks, she stops my
guide and me and standing right in front of me, looks at my guide and says
"What's her name?"

Amazing!
