[Job-Discussions] Questions about accessibility for a job that I applied and got

I must disagree with Karen. If this was a conditional job offer based on their ability to work with you to find reasonable accommodations, the offer can be withdrawn if no reasonable accommodations can be found.

There is a legal standard for what is “reasonable” based on multiple factors including the size of the organization, it’s annual budget, and how difficult it is to provide the accommodations. Reasonable accommodations are not an absolute entitlement.

Nor does the blind employee get to decide the accommodations. They must be negotiated. The employer will likely seek the lowest cost solution that works. And ultimately, that decision is the employer’s. Anyway, that’s the way I learned it. If you want up to the minute stuff, I recommend you consult an ADA lawyer.

I would be willing to use whatever software they are willing to use on their systems. So it is nothing about discrimination here at this point. It's more that it would be discrimination if they gave me the job and then took it back due to supposedly no accessibility issues.

I don’t know if they have changed at all, but they were pretty blatant about not wanting me as I very specifically mentioned I am a screen-reader user and wanted to ask who to contact regarding their technology as I had already been burned by applying to a work-from-home company called “My Employment Options”.

However after I got my offer and filled out all my tax forms. We started talking about my accessibility needs. They are now trying to figure out if the software will be accessible. But are basically telling me that if it's not that the job will not exist anymore. However they are working with a company called conduent which runs their call center software. And I'm trying to find out if anybody has had any experience with this company? Also if they have if these call center softwares are accessible with jobs for windows. Any help or guidance in the right direction and navigating this situation would be grateful. Mike
