The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.

Subject: Beyond Vision has a job opening in Columbus Ohio - Customer Care Specialist

Hello, Friends and Family of Beyond Vision!

Could you please assist in getting the word out about a Customer Care Specialist opening in Columbus, Ohio?

Beyond Vision is looking for some in-store customer service help at our base supply center on DSCC Columbus (position description attached). This position falls under the Ability-One program, so we do have a strong preference to employ someone who is “legally blind.” This is a full-time, non-exempt position with great benefits and a discretionary yearly bonus. We will assist with relocation costs if an out-of-state move is required. Starting pay is not yet determined, but I’m expecting something around the $14-$15/hour range for the Ohio area.

The Customer Care Specialist is an integral part of a busy team in a fast-paced retail environment. Shared tasks include assisting our in-store and online purchasers, packing/labelling loading shipments, unloading/verifying/receiving in freight, and other store functions as needed and as trained. Tasks unique to this role include filing PO’s and other paperwork and maintaining the FedEx activity report.

The Customer Care Specialist role also serves as the face of Beyond Vision to both customers and established vendors. He/she sends out communications regarding our annual Customer Appreciation Day and performs as Marketing Champion, sending promotions via e-blast to subscribed customers and suppliers and following up on responses received.

As you have guessed by now, this role requires someone with customer service and/or retail experience, good communication skills, and well-established (intermediate-to-advanced) computing proficiency. Also, since the inventory/POS software we currently use is not yet accessible with Jaws or NVDA, this job is best suited to someone who uses Zoom Text or other screen magnification rather than a screen reader. We have installed a Jaws-compatible ERP at our Milwaukee facility and will extend access to all BSCs starting in November. So, Zoom Text/Windows 10 Magnifier/etc. is still the name of the game for computer-based tasks till January or so.

Regarding public transportation access, I’m told the #10 bus stops at the Broad Street Gate on Base (the preferred entrance for civilian visitors and employees). Our current VI employees have also had good experience with the local special transit option as well as Uber and Lyft. From the gate, the base taxi service will provide front door service to the store or will drop off anywhere else on base, FYI.

Interested job seekers can apply by sending a resume, cover letter, and salary requirements to jobs at beyondvision.com <mailto:jobs at beyondvision.com> with the words ‘CCS Ohio’ in the subject line. I have begun screening applicants and can’t wait to hear from more!

Many thanks for everyone’s help getting word out about this great employment/upward mobility opportunity!!

I hope you all are well and thriving despite these continually challenging times! Take care!

Sarah
