[Job-Listings] Jobs in the Medical Field

Dear List Members,



Please read the following carefully and follow the directions exactly.



I have been contacted by the Anixter Center in Chicago, Illinois, which has
a grant to recruit jobseekers with disabilities for two hospitals in
Chicago.  As many of you know, getting blind people into the medical field
has been difficult because of a tendency to think of them as patients
rather than potential employees.  There is a real possibility that the
Anixter Center can change that.  The two hospitals are Mount Sinai and the
University of Chicago Medical Center.



Right now, the Anixter Center is looking for people who are well qualified
for jobs in the two hospitals.  I have attached a spreadsheet showing
current vacancies at Mt. Sinai.  These are job titles only.  If you feel
that you have the skills and experience to qualify for one or more of them,
please send one or more resumes tailored to the job(s) in question to
ddavis at blindinc.org within the next two weeks. Hazel Bowman of the Anixter
Center and I will review the resumes we receive and match them up to
position descriptions she will obtain.  If you seem to be qualified, we
will get back in touch with you and send you the position description so
you can update your resume so it fits more accurately.  Then Hazel will use
the final resumes to talk to Mt. Sinai about setting up possible interviews.



If you have your own reasonable accommodations, such as speech or Braille
output, please note them in your resume.  Also any licenses or specific
training that will be relevant to the jobs under consideration.



By operating in this way, the Anixter Center is setting itself up as an
employment agency for those of you who qualify.  You need to understand
that they will try to get you an interview at Mount Sinai and later at the
University of Chicago.  Their goal is to identify several blind people who
can break the ice with both hospitals, get jobs there, and pave the way for
other blind employees.  This process may take time, so you will need to be
patient.  However, selective placement is a very good way to get a job, and
that is what we are doing here.



They are looking primarily for people who live in Illinois, Indiana, and
Wisconsin to start, so I am going to send this through the NFB presidents
in those three states. Consider sending a resume if you are able and
willing to locate to Chicago. As far as I know, none of the jobs are
remote, so you will need to be able to relocate.  Please make sure you do a
good job on your resume and show how your skills qualify you for the
position. Do not send a generic resume.
