For nearly 90 years, the Braille Library has served as Southern California's official branch of the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS), a division of the Library of Congress. It is one of only two NLS branches that are privately operated and the only NLS library operated by a private, nonprofit organization and serving people of all ages, at all stages of vision loss.

The new Director of Library Services will oversee a team of 25 - including a library coordinator in each of Braille's seven regional centers - in serving the unique and evolving needs of its patrons. Of particular importance will be leading a comprehensive assessment and creating a strategic plan to ensure the library is employing best-in-class tools, programs, and technology as they continue to build a market-leading, 21st century library.

Candidates for this position must have previous experience in library programs and operations management, as well as exceptional leadership and organizational development skills. They should also demonstrate a commitment to continual learning in the field, including recent technological advances and digital platforms. An MLS degree and experience working with patrons who have with special needs is preferred.

The new Director of Library services will be able leverage the Braille Institute's brand and its full arsenal of international, national, and local resources in making a direct impact on improving the lives of those living with blindness or vision loss.
