[Job-Listings] FW: Vision Loss Resources/DeafBlind Services Minnesota - hiring for multiple open positions

Just a short time ago, some job vacancies at Vision Loss Resources (VLR)
and DeafBlind Services Minnesota were posted to this list. In the interest
of full disclosure, I wanted to share the following information with you:

The posting was made by one of our list members, who got it from Minnesota
State Services for the Blind. Our list members are welcome to post job
vacancies they hear of. VLR did not ask us to post it,

VLR, formerly the Minneapolis Society for the Blind, is the main competitor
of our NFB Training Center, BLIND, Inc.in MInneapolis. If you decide to go
to work for them, you will be competing against BLIND, Inc. The competition
is not a friendly one. They have employed one local NFB chapter member in
the past. VLR is a traditional blindness agency that does not subscribe to
the structured discovery method of learning. Their philosophy is pretty
much aligned with the ACB, If you are an ACB member, you might like working
there. If you are an NFB member, you might find it awkward.

DeafBlind Services Minnesota is a subsidiary of Vision Loss Resources, but
seems to operate with a degree of autonomy. I think they are respected by
local deafblind people, but I cannot say that for sure. They started out as
a separate organization with a separate culture. I don't think they are
anti-NFB, at least not overtly so.

I think both organizations are hiring so many people because they laid off
many staff during Covid-19.

I believe the above information is both fair and accurate. While we cannot
vet every employer posted by our list members, we will let you know what we
know about them. You can then make your own decisions about where to apply,
just like any other job seeker.
