This opportunity is specific to those who are in or have recently completed
a graduate or doctoral program.
AFB is seeking a part-time Research Fellow to join our Public Policy and
Research Institute. AFB Research Fellows are current graduate students or
recent graduates who receive mentorship and publication opportunities while
assisting with current research activities.
For the spring of 2023 (January-June), AFB is seeking a Research Fellow who
is familiar with knowledge translation and/or research outreach. This is a
part-time (7-10 hours per week), grant-funded Research fellowship with end
date of June 30, 2023, and the ability to telecommute. The successful
candidate will be paid from grant restricted funds and must be blind or
visually impaired. This position reports to the Director of Research. The
successful candidate will be responsible for providing support in
completing research tasks including:
• Advises Research and Marketing & Communications colleagues on strategies,
deliverables, and activities needed to increase the impact of AFB research
and to position AFB as a trusted source of research. Supports the
development of logic models and other tools necessary to identify and
implement effective dissemination strategies.
• Advises research staff on actions needed to build and maintain trust with
underrepresented communities when performing research outreach activities,
including recruitment and dissemination.
• In coordination with Research and Marketing and Communications
colleagues, produces and distributes appealing reports, presentations, and
other communications deliverables that support research dissemination and
knowledge translation. Ensures research deliverables are fully accessible
to and usable by people with disabilities.
• Identifies and acts on opportunities to reach strategic research
audiences and participants with the appropriate messaging to achieve
project goals. Translates research findings into communications products
that respond to multiple stakeholders’ knowledge needs. Works with the
communications team to create and distribute multimedia content as
appropriate. May attend conferences or meetings to deliver presentations to
and/or build relationships with new research audiences.
• Coordinates with communications colleagues to plan dissemination events
or webinars.
• Assists in creating and distributing internal messaging to support
AFB-wide messaging strategies and programmatic decisions based on AFB’s
research.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled or recently graduated (within the past two years) from a
master’s or doctoral degree program in a social science, public health,
program evaluation, technical writing, or disability field. Must be
familiar with social science research methods and comfortable conveying
research findings and research-based recommendations to a wide variety of
audiences. Excellent writing skills required. Education or experience
related to disability research, Participatory Action Research (PAR), or
work with under-represented research populations preferred.
Compensation:
$30.00/hour, 7-10 hours per week for 24 weeks
