Job Description:

The Iowa Library for the Blind and Print Disabled within the Iowa Department
for the Blind located in Des Moines is seeking applicants for the position
of Librarian 1 to fill the role of Programming and Community Engagement
Librarian.  This position is responsible for developing, coordinating, and
implementing all aspects of programs and community outreach for the library.

 

Community Engagement

*	Work throughout the state to foster and grow the library reputation
*	Create and coordinate marketing and publicity for the library
*	Assist and coordinate the development of effective marketing of
library services, Instructional Materials Center services, programming,
content and resources for the website, blogs, podcasts, newsletters and
social media
*	Collaborate with Iowa school systems to help expand and support
learning opportunities, accessibility and literacy
*	Serve as liaison to community groups, organizations and agencies,
acts as an ambassador for the library
*	Develop collaborative projects and connections with partners and
nurture ongoing relationships
*	Collaborate with the Patron Services Team and Youth Services
Librarian to develop coordinated and consistent messaging for outreach
services
*	Lead efforts to recruit new and manage existing volunteers;
coordinate volunteer opportunities with library teams

Programming

*	Initiate, plan, develop, oversee and implement a variety of programs
and activities to encourage the use of the library by teens and adults and
enhance the image of the library
*	Work with other library team members to oversee programming and
community engagement needs
*	Coordinate and manage the scheduling of outside presenters and
collaborators for teens and adults along with ancillary projects such as
book groups, book festivals and technology fairs
*	Measure outcomes using a variety of methods to make recommendations
and implement solutions as needed
*	Coordinate library participation in community outreach events and
collaborate with other library staff to coordinate staffing and support
*	Collect statistics and contribute to monthly reports

Library Services

*	Makes book purchase suggestions based on programming and events
*	Participate in collection management and maintenance; including pull
lists, shelving, shifting and weeding
*	Provide customer service to patrons and community members
*	Listen to patron needs and show flexibility and willingness to
experiment with new ideas to meet the needs of the community
*	Provide Reader Advisory services to patrons by conducting reference
and readers' advisory interviews to guide patrons to reading materials and
information resources
*	Provide high-quality training in the use of specialized formats,
such as digital talking books, digital players, BARD, library's on-line
catalog and other library services
*	Manage patron accounts through the use of the library's integrated
library systems
*	Work scheduled phone, mail and information desk shifts, as well as
substituting as needed
*	Participates in department projects and programs

Minimum Qualification Requirements

A Master's degree in Library Science from an accredited school of Library
Science;

OR

an undergraduate degree from an accredited four year college or university
and one year of full-time professional librarian or archives experience
