ACCESSIBILITY TRAINING INTERN
[PAID, REMOTE, 20 HOURS, 6 MONTHS]
Each year, the Carroll Center for the Blind helps nearly 1,300 blind or visually impaired children, adults and senior citizens gain the skills they need
to live active and fulfilling lives. Our Newton campus houses our rehabilitation program, computer training classes, low vision store, and administrative
offices. A large portion of our programs are services conducted in public schools, clients’ homes, and their communities.
POSITION SUMMARY
Are you professional, creative and possess a passion to help those who are blind or visually impaired launch their career in the field of digital accessibility?
Reporting to the Accessibility Training Coordinator, the Accessibility Training Intern will contribute to the growth and development of the Screen Reader
User Testing Training (SRUTT) Program’s curriculum. This individual will provide screen reader user tester training instruction, gain experience coordinating
guest speaker presentations, and positively represent the SRUTT Program for marketing purposes while reinforcing both knowledge of WCAG guidelines and
advanced skills with productivity tools across Microsoft and Google apps. This internship will be for six months and its timing will coincide with preparation,
delivery, and debriefing for at least one SRUTT course offering.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Contribute to SRUTT curriculum development and maintenance.
Serve as a remote instructor for a small part of the curriculum.
Contribute to cultivation of an online SRUTT graduates community that will promote employment opportunities.
Assist with recruitment, outreach, and coordination of guest presenters.
Participate in SRUTT promotional presentations.
Respond to SRUTT Program inquiries when requested.
Assist with tracking and optimizing student metrics related to learning progress and outcomes.
Perform other job related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree, currently enrolled in a degree program or related work experience required.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organization, detail oriented and analytical skills required.
Experience working with individuals who are blind and visually impaired or who have other disabilities is a plus.
creativity and artistic ability is a plus.
Proficiency with screen reader programs including JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
Proficiency with Google Drive, Sheets, and Docs
Ability to draft and manage emails with a high level of independence.
Familiarity with Zoom Video Conferencing, including scheduling, hosting, and screen sharing functions.
Typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute with greater than 95% accuracy.
Experience working with complex folder hierarchies using a Windows desktop application, such as Google Drive for Desktop, Dropbox, One Drive, or This
PC.
Strong independent learner with an aptitude for technical concepts.
Familiarity with the WCAG standards is a plus.
