an Executive Director to be based and serve full time in its Rockville, MD
headquarters. The Executive Director will report to the AAHD Board of
Directors, while leading the organization to fulfill its mission of
promoting health equity, inclusion, and accessibility, and reducing the
incidence of health disparities in people with disabilities across the
lifespan. 

AAHD is a national cross-disability non-profit 501(c) (3) organization
dedicated to ensuring health equity and inclusion for persons with
disabilities. AAHD accomplishes its mission through research, advocacy,
education, policy, and knowledge translation efforts at the national, state,
and community level. AAHD strives to promote health equity for people with
disabilities and advocate for full community inclusion and full
accessibility. 

The primary responsibilities of the Executive Director are to provide
visionary leadership for AAHD; oversee multiple contracts/grants; expand the
organization's research agenda; provide guidance and leadership in areas of
programmatic and policy development; oversee strategic planning; supervise
staff, coordinate with Board of Directors on fundraising strategy; and
provide leadership in budgeting and fiscal management. The Executive
Director is expected to have a strong background in public health and
disability, and represents AAHD's interests at the national, state and
community levels, while understanding and supporting the overall vision of
AAHD's goals, mission, values and initiatives. 

The ideal candidate for this position should possess leadership skills at
the national level and their resume should reflect experience supervising a
large team of professionals and national initiatives/research projects. The
position requires a minimum of 15 years of experience in the field of
disability and health, with at least 8 years of experience in a leadership
role at a national disability/public health organization.  The ideal
candidate will possess a terminal degree in disability, public health, law,
education, or other social sciences; and possess skills to work
collaboratively with partners at the federal, state, and community level.
The ideal candidate will have experience collaborating with the federal
government and private foundations and be expected to participate in
frequent national coalition meetings, national conferences and be
comfortable with public speaking. Minimal travel is required. The
opportunity to telecommute up to 2 days/week maybe possible.

The Executive Director of AAHD must be highly focused and mission driven and
have excellent multi-tasking skills. The position requires a creative,
"outside the box" visionary spirit, with the ability to develop short term
and long-term strategic plans that serve the long-term goals of AAHD. The
Executive Director must be able to express ideas intelligently and be
comfortable interacting with people with disabilities, board members, staff
and consultants, partners and funders while also representing AAHD at the
national level in Washington, DC with advocates, members of Congressional
staff, national coalitions, and potential funders.

AAHD activities are largely funded by federal agencies and foundations. The
