The New York State Talking Book and Braille Library<https://www.nysl.nysed.gov/tbbl/about-tbbl.htm> (TBBL) in Albany, NY offers an exciting opportunity for a Senior Librarian to join our team. This position allows you to make a real impact by serving those who are unable to read standard print materials due to a visual impairment, a physical disability, or a reading disability. TBBL lends audio and braille books and magazines, as well as the necessary playback equipment, to residents of the 55 upstate counties of New York State who are eligible for our service.

We are looking for someone with a passion for service, outreach, and accessibility to help us connect eligible New Yorkers with this lifechanging service.

Our office is in the Cultural Education Center in the heart of downtown Albany. The City of Albany offers a vibrant and historic small-city atmosphere with a much lower cost of living than larger metro areas. Enjoy a mix of urban amenities and easy access to beautiful natural surroundings like the foothills of the Adirondacks, all within a short drive to cultural hubs like New York City and Boston. 

The salary range is $66,527 to $84,496. The position also offers an attractive benefits package, including participation in the NYS Retirement System. 

Candidates do not have to be on a civil service list to be eligible for this position. This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program<https://www.cs.ny.gov/help/> (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.

Job Specifics: 
Under the direction of the Associate Librarian/TBBL Director, the incumbent of this position serves as Senior Librarian and is responsible for overseeing Reader Services to a large, diverse, and geographically dispersed population of patrons who receive TBBL service. This position manages reference requests, circulation of materials, and the integration of adaptive technology trends. This position will employ creative strategies for statewide outreach to increase TBBL enrollment and will help launch TBBL’s new recording studio, to make audio recordings of reading material available to TBBL patrons. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
·                  Identify and implement strategies to enhance TBBL services statewide, through marketing, communications, outreach, and stakeholder development.
·                  Serve as back up administrator for the library’s automation system, Keystone Library Automation System (KLAS);
·                  Oversee TBBL's public services, participates in Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) administration, digital download, Duplication on Demand, and other services.
·                  Train, supervise, and evaluate support staff who provide reader services via telephone and/or email. Ensure excellent customer service and resolve patron service issues.
·                  Coordinate the work of clerical staff assigned to database maintenance projects. prepares staff training to ensure reader services is meeting appropriate staffing levels and KLAS training; Develop, review, update TBBL policies and maintain documentation of policies and procedures.
·                  Performs complex problem resolution activities related to the editing of online records and the processing of materials to make bibliographic information clear and accessible to patrons; Assist with loading and classifying bibliographic catalog database records, prepares staff training to ensure reader services is meeting appropriate standards,
·                  Work with the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLSBPD) to reach, maintain or exceed service standards.
·                  Help launch and run the new TBBL Recording Studio.
·                  Prepare annual and bi-annual NLS reports, maintain TBBL statistics, and other reports as requested by Library administration.
·                  Perform other tasks, as assigned.
·                  Hours are within 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and participation in a Saturday rotation is required.
