Next Step Success is seeking a passionate team member to work

with individuals with disabilities to provide benefits counseling and
financial

education services through contracts with federal and state agencies.

Virginia residency is preferred, and the position is fully remote. We are
seeking one full-time employee to work 40 hours per week, or two part-time
employees working 20-25 hours per week.



This is a wage employee position (W2), with pay starting at $25/hour,
commensurate with experience. Our ideal candidate will have 5+ years of
experience in direct benefits planning (work incentives counseling),
financial empowerment, or disability services and hold an existing
certification as a work incentive practitioner from Cornell or VCU.
Existing Social Security clearance is not required but preferred, and must
be able to be obtained upon hiring. Candidates must have a private
workspace where they can conduct business and protect client Personally
Identifiable Information (PII). They must also have their own computer and
internet access; these items are not company provided.



Part-time employees do not receive any benefits. Full-time employee
benefits include unlimited paid time off as approved by the supervisor, 13+
paid holidays, short and long-term disability and retirement contribution
with up to 3% employer match. This position does not offer health or dental
insurance currently.





*Duties and Responsibilities*



*Work Incentives Planning and Assistance:*

●        Serve as a subject matter expert on SSDI and SSI and related work
incentives, and other public benefits and work incentives, including
advanced case management.

●        Assist beneficiaries in understanding and managing the impact of
work on their benefits, handling cases at all complexity levels
independently.

●        Provide detailed guidance on wage reporting, overpayment
resolution, and work incentive utilization.

●        Provide ongoing work incentives monitoring and management support
for SSI and SSDI beneficiaries.

●        Handle complex cases involving concepts such as: self-employment,
multiple benefits programs, and legal considerations.

●        Act as a key liaison between SSA, government agencies, and
nonprofit organizations to advocate for clients, secure benefits
protections, and resolve benefits issues.

●        Provide training and mentorship to Benefits Planner 1 and 2 staff.

●        Represent the organization in professional networks, conferences,
and policy discussions.

●        Maintain relationships with key government agency staff, partner
organizations, and other stakeholders to facilitate services and effective
case management.

●        Conduct outreach and training for beneficiaries, service
providers, and other stakeholders.

●        Support strategic initiatives to improve benefits counseling
services and expand access to resources.

●        Assist with development and implementation of best practices for
benefits planning, financial empowerment, and self-sufficiency programs.



*Documentation:*

●        Maintain accurate records in accordance with Social Security
Administration requirements regarding protection of information.

●        Ensure comprehensive and timely documentation of client services,
interactions, and benefits planning outcomes as outlined in policies and
procedures.

●        Conduct client intakes, track progress, and modify benefits plans
as needed.

●        Conduct quality reviews of Benefits Summary and Analysis reports
completed by Benefits Planner 1 and 2 staff.

●        Track time spent performing activities as needed and instructed by
senior staff and according to specific agency policies.



*Education and Skill Requirements*

●        5+ years of experience in benefits planning/work incentives
advisement.

●        Extensive knowledge of SSA regulations, benefits planning, and
work incentives strategies.

●        High-level analytical, policy interpretation, program development
skills, and problem-solving skills.

●        Experience collaborating with SSA, government agencies, and
advocacy groups.

●        Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other
documentation and case management tools.

●        Ability to work from home, in a private setting, with appropriate
internet access.

●        Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple
priorities and caseload with minimal supervision.

●        Strong leadership, training, and mentorship abilities preferred.

●        Bachelor’s degree or higher required; human/social services
related field preferred.
