Subject: [Journalists] Finding a Job

Hello all!

I am legally blind and a May 2012 graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. I also received a degree in political science from ASU.

For the past year and a half, I have been trying to find jobs but I either don't have enough experience or they hire someone who the employer feels they can count on because a lot of digital journalism is visual. I even tried looking for internships, but companies want to only hire someone who is still in school for those. I have been discouraged and sad at times, willing to give up. But when the thought of giving up forms into reality, it simply goes away and I proceed with my journalism ambitions.

I started a blog that showcases my writing and digital skills. It covers issues that the blind and deaf communities face in a way that doesn't advocate, but explains. The link to my blog can be found at the bottom of the e-mail. Although this keeps me busy, it still doesn't provide me with the income I need. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about the road I should travel in order to find a job?
Or does anyone have any job leads? I am mostly in Arizona and California, but I wouldn't mind working anywhere around the country.
How can I find internships or fellowships that will hire a person who is legally blind and almost two years out of school? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Feel free to e-mail me personally. I appreciate this list and look forward to hearing from you all!
Thank you and have a great week,
       --
