Please read this thoughtful and candid post from Anil Lewis, Executive Director of the Jernigan Institute. Mr. Lewis expertly highlights the importance of skills and opportunity with regard to a positive philosophy of blindness and explains how his perceptions might have been much different earlier on had he and his family been given exposure to the work of the Federation. A diagnosis of blindness can be traumatic for the patient, his or her family, and the eye care professional. Mr. Lewis addresses these truths from a place of experience and love.
