Hi Everyone,
I am sending out this note to give folks some information about the 2023
Mock Trial and some preliminary information about the 2023 Annual Meeting of
the National Association of Blind Lawyers.
The NABL Mock Trial is back!
Join us in the Lanier Grand Ballroom G & J on July 2, 2023 at 4:15PM or when
the Resolutions Committee adjourns, whichever is later, for our 23rd Mock
Trial. As this is a fundraiser, admission is $5 per person. Federation
lawyers oppose each other to enact a case addressing the civil rights of
blind people, and the audience serves as the jury. The subject matter is
serious, but the courtroom portrayers are very entertaining.
This year, for the first time ever, we will be making available for purchase
for $20, a curated selection of previous NABL mock trials. Scott Labarre
chose them himself prior to his passing. These recordings feature
Federation lawyers, including Scott Labarre, Charlie Brown, and Peggy
Elliott, and many others in a variety of roles. These recordings will be
available via download, or for those attending the NFB Convention in person
who prefer, via flash drive. Individuals can purchase the recordings on the
Blind Lawyers website shortly, or they can visit Lisa Bonderson at the NABL
registration table outside of our meeting room, or they can purchase them
from me during General Sessions at the Maryland delegation. Proceeds will
go to the Scott C. Labarre Leadership and Justice Fund.
We will be holding our 2023 Annual Meeting for the National Association of
Blind Lawyers on July 3, 2023 from 1PM - 6:30PM, including a networking
reception. The agenda is forthcoming. The registration form will be posted
on the Blind Lawyers website shortly. Registration costs include NABL dues.
Registration for students is $5, for all others is $25, and those wishing to
receive CLE can do so for an additional $20. We will also be streaming the
meeting, with access information to be shared soon.
We look forward to seeing many of you in Houston!
Ronza Othman, President
National Federation of the Blind of Maryland

Pronouns: she, her, hers
The National Federation of the Blind of Maryland knows that blindness is not
the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back
