The below research participant solicitation is being provided for informational purposes only. The National Federation of the Blind has no involvement in this research, but we believe that it may contribute to our research mission.

 

Research Title: QUARTZ (Qualitative Understanding via Accessible Representation and VisualiZation)

 

Being conducted by: University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

 

Purpose of the Study

The purpose of this study is to evaluate QUARTZ (Qualitative Understanding via Accessible Representation and VisualiZation), a system designed to enable blind and low-vision (BLV) researchers to independently create qualitative data visualizations. Findings from this study will help us understand how well the system supports BLV users in creating concept maps, network graphs, Sankey diagrams, and coding stripes, and will inform improvements to the tool's accessibility and usability.

 

 

Role of the Participants and Anticipated Length of the Study 

Participation involves completing a pre-survey and a remote usability study session via Zoom lasting approximately 120 minutes. During the session, you will:

 

Complete a brief pre-survey about your experience with qualitative research and data visualization

 

Receive a brief introduction to the QUARTZ system

 

Complete hands-on tasks creating four types of qualitative visualizations (concept maps, network graphs, Sankey diagrams, and coding stripes) while thinking aloud

 

Complete a post-study usability survey and brief closing discussion

 

Proposed Participant Compensation

Yes, Participants will receive a $50 Amazon e-gift card upon completion of the study session.
