Many of you will remember that last May several of us went to Washington to meet with members of the Senate and House or Representatives regarding funding from the government to help our rehabilitation services for blind seniors. Our Congressmen and Senators are at home on recess and we are asking that all of us try to visit them to make them aware of the importance of this program.
What is it? the Independent Living Services for Older Individuals Who are Blind Program awards grants to State Rehabilitation agencies to provide services to blind seniors. The last time that Congress paid any attention to these services was thirteen years ago.
What we are asking: Let them know that blind seniors need to learn that They can keep their independence and live the lives they want if they can become acquainted with alternatives like using a white cane or discovering how to cook without looking. We are suggesting that they appropriate $260,750,000 to fund the Independent Living Services for Older Individuals Who are Blind.
You may want to check with your state president to know how to get in touch with your legislators.
If you have further questions Please call 443-681-9345
Let's let them know that they can really make a difference.
