Hello NFB members,
I am conducting a study as part of my doctoral work at the University of Massachusetts Boston that explores how people in the organized blind movement organize and practice care within the context of the National Federation of the Blind. The purpose of this study is to better understand how different affiliate and chapters of the NFB build, sustain, and enact care in their organizing practices. The study asks: How might insights from the organized blind movement inform our understanding of mutual, de-professionalized, and community-led caring in organizational contexts?
If you choose to participate, you will be invited to take part in one or more interviews (approximately 60 minutes each) conducted either on Zoom or by phone. We will talk about your experiences as a member of the NFB, and how you understand ideas like care, reciprocity, organizing, and community. You may skip any question or stop the interview at any time for any reason. With your permission, I will record the interview for accuracy. All information you share will be anonymized, and any identifying details (such as names, exact dates, or locations) will be removed.
If you choose to participate, I will send you a consent form outlining the study in more detail and describing how your privacy and data will be protected.
Thanks so much for your consideration. I believe understanding how individuals in organizational contexts contribute to building community through caring for self and others can further meaningful inclusion and look forward to answering any questions you may have.
Warmly,
Ren Lovegood
