Hello all,
Here is a sample voting letter in case you want to use it. Feel free to
personalize it. This letter contains the main issues surrounding HB 423.
Read below.
Dear Delegate,
Please vote in favor of HB 423, a bill that will create one voting system
in the state of Maryland. This bill is necessary because blind and other
disabled voters lost their right to a secret ballot.
Maryland has two voting systems - one which allows people to use a
hand-marked, paper ballot, the other an electronic ballot marking device.
The ballots are different in size and form. Since the Board of Elections
does not encourage voters to use the electronic ballot marking device, many
times, there are precincts where only one voter uses it. This vote can be
recognized during recounts. This bill will require all ballots to be the
same size and form so that the ballots cast by voters with disabilities
will no longer be recognizable. Please support HB 423 because all voters in
Maryland, including the blind and disabled, should have the right to a
secret ballot.
Sincerely,
NAME

The National Federation of the Blind of Maryland knows that blindness is
not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Everyday we raise
the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
