Subject: Metro weekend track work November 9-12

The ongoing effort to rebuild and upgrade the Metrorail system to provide
safer and more reliable service will continue over Veterans' Day weekend,
November 9-12, on the Red, Orange and Green lines. The work will begin at 10
p.m. Friday and continue through system closing on Veterans' Day, Monday,
November 12.

There is no scheduled track work this weekend on the Blue or Yellow lines.

On Veterans' Day, Monday, November 12, Metrorail service will operate on a
Saturday schedule. The system will open at 5 a.m. and close at midnight.
Metrobus service will operate on a "Saturday Supplemental" schedule;
customers should check timetables for details.

Red Line: Trains will single track between Grosvenor and Friendship Heights
to allow for rail and fastener renewal, as well as tunnel leak repairs.
Throughout the weekend, trains will operate every 20 minutes between Shady
Grove and Glenmont. Between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and
Monday, additional trains will operate between Friendship Heights and
Glenmont, resulting in service an average of every 10 minutes between those
stations. Customers traveling through the work zone should allow about 10
minutes of additional travel time.

Orange Line: Buses will replace Orange Line trains between East Falls
Church and Clarendon as Metro replaces track switches outside Ballston
Station. In addition, trains will single track between Vienna and East
Falls Church to allow for testing associated with the Silver Line extension
project.

As a result, two stations -- Ballston and Virginia Square -- will be closed.
Free shuttle bus service will operate between East Falls Church and
Clarendon, making intermediate station stops.

Throughout the weekend, Orange Line trains will operate in two segments:
     • Between Clarendon and New Carrollton at regular weekend service
intervals
     • Between Vienna and East Falls Church every 24 minutes

Customers traveling through the work zone via shuttle bus service should
allow about 30 minutes of additional travel time. Customers traveling
to/from stations west of East Falls Church should allow up to 45 minutes of
additional travel time (30 minutes for shuttle bus service plus up to 15
minutes due to single tracking).

Green Line: Trains will single track between Greenbelt and College Park to
allow for construction associated with a new track to test 7000-series
railcars. Every other train will originate/terminate at College Park, rather
than Greenbelt. Green Line trains will operate normally, at regular weekend
intervals, between College Park and Branch Avenue. Customers traveling to or
from Greenbelt Station only should allow about 10 minutes of additional
travel time.
