[Md-sligo] Chapter announcements

I am enjoying hot weather over here.  In fact, I am currently sitting in my
air-conditioned office working on some plans for a press conference next
Monday (March 11), and a three-day workshop for the strategic plan for my
Commission.  By the way, I will send you information on my Commission, the
National Commission for Persons with Disability (NCPD), of which I am
Chairman and Chief Commissioner.  In that capacity, I am in charge of
implementing the provisions of the National Disability Act, Sierra Leone,
which was enacted by the Sierra Leone Parliament on March 10, 2011.

The Commission was established last June and I was appointed as its first
Chairman and Chief Commissioner by the President of Sierra Leone, H.E. Dr.
Ernest Bai Koroma, on 14th June, 2012.  My appointment was later confirmed
by the Sierra Leone Parliament after I successfully went through an
interview with the Parliamentary Committee for Appointments.

I will give you more details of my activities as time goes on.

Our meeting on Saturday will be at the Whiteoak Library, 11701 New Hampshire
Avenue.

 

Thanks to all of you who bought food, set up, and cleaned up for the board
meeting on Saturday.  Thank you, Janice, for the homemade banana bread.  I
think Sligo is the only chapter that serves homemade baked goods at a board
meeting.

 

We have two more hearings in Annapolis, one this week on Wednesday, march 6,
and one on Tuesday, march 12.  For the march 6 hearing, we are going early
to talk to Prince Georges County delegates, so anyone from Prince Georges
County who is free would be most welcome.  

 

I talked to Helen Webb last week, and I know Pauline has talked to her as
well.  They are doing fine, but Elizabeth does not like to travel, so they
will not make it to the convention this summer.  Elizabeth has some
short-term memory problems, but she has not forgotten us.

 

I will be bringing raffle tickets on Saturday.  The tickets cost $5.  The
numbers are drawn in the monty of Mary.  If your number is drawn on Sunday
through Friday, you win $50, if it is drawn on Saturday, you win $100.  If
you sell 35 tickets, you win a banquet ticket at national convention, or the
price of a banquet ticket if you do not go.

 

Please bring candy money if you have any.
