In recognition of National Healthcare Decisions Day on Thursday, April 16, the Montgomery County Coalition for Care at the End of Life invites the public to a reception and free screening of the documentary, “Consider the Conversation.” The hour-long film includes interviews with patients, families, health care professionals, and clergy. Following the film, a panel of experts will respond to questions from the audience about end-of-life concerns.  No advance registration is required. White House Conference on Aging Regional Forum Viewing Session

The White House Conference on Aging is hosting a series of regional forums to engage with older Americans, their families, caregivers, leaders in the aging field, and others on key issues affecting older Americans. The purpose of the forums is to help provide input and ideas for the upcoming 2015 White House Conference on Aging, which will focus on four areas: ensuring retirement security; promoting healthy aging; providing long-term services and supports; and protecting older Americans from financial exploitation, abuse, and neglect.

On April 27th (in conjunction with the forum in Cleveland, Ohio), the Montgomery County Commission on Aging and the Vital Living Network are hosting a session to view the live webcast of the forum and provide input to the conference.  The webcast of the Regional Forum will start at 8:30 am and end at about 12:30 pm. At that time (while participants at the actual forum will break into work groups), you are invited to stay for a discussion over lunch, during which we can draft recommendations to submit to the White House Conference on Aging. You also have the option to submit input on your own.

The Viewing Session is free and open to the public. Although it is NOT necessary to RSVP for this event, it would be helpful for us to have an idea of the expected turnout. If you are planning to attend, please let Emily Glazer know at emily.glazer at montgomerycountymd.gov<mailto:emily.glazer at montgomerycountymd.gov> or 240-773-8278. If you are interested in eating the lunch served at the senior center - for individuals under age 60 it would be available at a cost of $5.49.  If you are 60 or over, a contribution is welcome. Explore Active Living at Gaithersburg’s Active Aging Expo
The City of Gaithersburg’s 7th Annual Active Aging Expo presented by Adventist HealthCare is a day filled with energy, educational talks, interactive demonstrations, facials, massages, manicures, and preventive screenings. Fun activities include caricature drawings, tattoos and a photo booth. This free event takes place on Monday, May 4, 2015 from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, 506 South Frederick Avenue, next to Gaithersburg High School.

The day will feature a variety of speakers covering an array of topics including “Posture = Performance,” “Become an Empowered Patient,” “Holistic Nutrition,” “Understanding Your Pain,” “Are Naps Right for You?”, “Healthy Habits for a Healthier You,” and “Do You Collect, Clutter or Hoard?”.  Fitness demonstrations and other interactive activities include BarreFit, Core Strength, Tai Chi, Theatre Games, and Painting with Acrylics.

The expo is hosted in partnership with the Montgomery Village Foundation, Asbury Methodist Village, Montgomery County Recreation and the Montgomery County Housing Opportunities Commission. It is sponsored in part by Holy Cross Hospital, The Beacon Newspapers, Wegmans, Drink More Water, Family & Nursing Care, and Kentlands Manor. Not-for-profit organizations with information on health and wellness as well as businesses that specialize in serving older adults will also be on hand.  Please note that the Gaithersburg Upcounty Senior Center will be closed on May 4 as all staff will be involved in this event.

No registration is necessary.  Just show up and be prepared to change your life.  We encourage everyone to bring a canned good to be donated to Manna Food Center.
