Subject: 7000 Series Test

Members,

As you may have notice, the new 7000 series railcars have two different types of between-car barriers; (1) the traditional rope barrier found on all other Metro railcars, and (2) a new rubber between-car barrier located on the ends of the cab cars.

Before and since moving to this design, which was adopted in 2008, Metro has engaged in study and analysis of the effect the new between-car barrier, and having a different type of between-car barrier would have on customers who are blind or low vision. Metro found the new between-car barriers to be safe and effective for all customers including those who are blind or low vision.

As part of our continued effort to review all safety matters, and to respond to a Federal Transit Administration (FTA) directive to hold a test of the barriers with customers who are blind or low vision, Metro is inviting AAC members who are blind or low vision, and other customers who are blind and low-vison to participate in a series of tests related to the between-car barriers on the 7000 series railcars.

The date, time, and location are listed below.

§ When: Thursday, August 18, 2016
