What is the new Flex microtransit service?

  *   A pilot transportation service to improve access and provide more connections to the existing transit network
  *   Mobile app-based booking of ALL rides
  *   Brand-new passenger buses with wheelchair accessibility
  *   No loading of fare cards on buses
  *   Buses feature free WiFi access
  *   Connections between households, transit hubs, commercial centers, and public services (e.g. libraries, schools, recreation centers)
  *   Regular Ride On fare policy
  *   Provides first and last mile connections by on demand buses owned and operated by MCDOT

How to Prepare for Ride On Flex

  1.  Download the mobile phone app (Ride On Flex) from the Apple or Google store
  2.  Enter your pick up location
  3.  Enter your drop off location
  4.  Book your trip
  5.  Go to your pick up location and enjoy your trip

The service will only take SmarTrip cards<http://www.smartrip.com/>, passes, tokens, and cash. You cannot load cash/tokens onto a SmarTrip card on Flex. Always have enough fare on your card, or use cash/tokens/passes on these buses.

What to Expect

  *   The bus operator will ask for your first and last name to confirm you have a reservation.
  *   "Virtual" bus stops only (no bus shelters or physical bus stops with poles and concrete pads).
     *   Boarding will be at designated corners (for example, the northeast corner of Main and Park Streets)
  *   Pick-up locations are considered corner to corner unless otherwise designated as curb to curb (wheelchairs)
     *   Glenmont Metro Station location will be the Kiss & Ride Lot.
     *   Rockville Metro Station location will the Kiss & Ride Lot.
     *   Wheaton Metro Station location will be a bus bay.
  *   Reservations are same-day only and on demand only -- you're given the next available time.
  *   Maximum of 6 people are allowed per reservation.
  *   NO BOARDING WITHOUT A BOOKED RESERVATION
  *   The bus operator will wait one minute after arrival at pickup location.
  *   No-show riders will have their registrations suspended after three no shows.
