Hi Shawn this is the email that I promised last night to send you about the lady looking for blind people who have jobs. If you know anyone who would be interested in helping her out please feel free to share it. I will leave it to your discretion whether or not to participate in this but I thought of you because you have all the blind people I know right now probably work the most hours. I don’t know JAHN is working because of the Disney shut down I’ll have to email him. Anyway here it is. Subject: Interviewees and interviewers needed for the It's My Job podcast

Good afternoon!

Given that many students and professionals are currently working from home, I’ve started a podcast to support students in learning about the interesting careers of blind adults. Our first episode of It’s My Job was a success – a blind student from the US Virgin Islands interviewed Mark Richert (the interim director of AER). The episode is on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/AskItsMyJob/) and on YouTube (https://youtu.be/tCjsvOnIHBg).
I’m working to develop a list of blind adults who would like to be interviewed as well as students (kindergarten through 12th grade) who would like to conduct the interviews.

As a leader of an NFB division, would you be interested in being interviewed, or with sharing this opportunity with your division members?
The request is pretty simple:

  1. I’ll need to know the name and job title/field of study for anyone who wants to be interviewed. I’d love to have a short bio or a link to information about each interviewee so that we can share this with students when they prepare interview questions.
  2. As we have students available to schedule interviews (with parent/guardian permission), I’ll contact interviewees to arrange time to meet via Zoom (computer or phone).
  3. The student interviewer will send me a list of 10 interview questions in advance, which I’ll forward to the interviewee.
  4. We’ll meet in Zoom and the pre-scheduled time, and we’ll record the interview (audio only, approximately 15-20 minutes). The interviewee will have a chance to ask the interviewer a couple of questions at the end of the interview.

If you are a parent/teacher of k-12 student who would like to be an interviewer, the process is also easy!

  1. We need parent/guardian consent (I can email you a template for this)
  2. We match the student with an interviewee and schedule a day and time for the interview.
  3. The student prepares 10 interview questions which are sent to me, and I forward them to the interviewee.
  4. We help the student (and his/her parent or teacher if desired) conduct the interview using Zoom (telephone or computer), which is recorded.

Recorded interviews will be edited, captioned, and uploaded as podcast episodes, to be shared via social media. We hope that the It’s My Job podcast will help students learn about a wide range of career opportunities. The episodes will be especially useful now while students and teachers are working from home, and they’ll remain available for use in the future.

Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to volunteer!
