Active Learning for students with multiple disabilities: Webinar
Event Details: February 13, 1-2 pm
This webinar will provide a brief introduction to Active Learning, which is an educational approach created by Dr. Lilli Nielsen of Denmark designed for learners who are functioning below the developmental age of 48 months (4 years).
Basic principles will be discussed, along with resources to help families and practitioners to get started implementing this approach.

NFB EQ
June 21-27, 2020
St. Paul, Minnesota
NFB EQ (the National Federation of the Blind Engineering Quotient program) is a week-long summer engineering program for blind and low-vision teens from around the United States.
NFB EQ is jam-packed with fun and learning. Participants spend each day engaged in activities designed to strengthen their knowledge of engineering as well as their problem solving abilities. In the evenings, participants explore the local community and participate in various recreational activities.

TVI Tuition Reduction Programs
These TVI programs offer partial or whole TVI tuition assistance. Please encourage people in your counties to apply!

a.    University of Massachusetts Boston<https://globalinclusion.umb.edu/apply/vision-studies-med>: Tuition support (Grant pays $900 of $1,400 tuition per course). Applications due March 1

b. Pittsburgh<https://www.education.pitt.edu/academics/vision-studies-programs>: offering up to 100% tuition assistance

c. Northern Illinois University<https://www.cedu.niu.edu/seed/graduate-programs/masters-visual-disabilities.shtml>: must be in person, 100% tuition plus yearly $5,520 stipend (flyer attached)

NCUEB

We are off to a great start in our statewide NCUEB implementation. Two TVI’s from PG County took and passed the test. Congratulations to Lisa Belliveau and Matthew Spencer as the newest NCUEB certified individuals in Maryland. Upcoming test dates for NCUEB are all on the TVI portal<https://sites.google.com/view/tviportalmaryland/ncueb-testing>. The upcoming dates are:

The 2020 summer Conference, "World of Possibilities" seeks to bring together professionals and stakeholders in the education of blind and low vision students in the state of Maryland. NFB-Newsline Demo

When: February 18, 3 pm EST

Description: This is a hands-on webinar on NFB Newsline. You will learn how to access the service via the different platforms including telephone, smart device and computer. This is a great webinar for TVI’s and parents to get a better in depth understanding of how to use this free service. Liz Graves is the NFB Newsline coordinator for Texas and will be conducting the presentation. If you cannot attend the day of, the session will be recorded. Contact hours will be provided. Due to accessibility, there is no registration for the webinar. Just remember to login the day of the session!

“Sharing the Love” Family Party
Saturday, February 15, 2020, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. At National Federation of the Blind (200 E. Wells St. Baltimore, MD 21230)
Arts and Crafts, Cooking and other Hands-on activities, Lots of snacks, Participate in creating a time capsule. Extra special this year: Help prepare and package gifts for House of Ruth, a local organization that cares for victims of domestic violence and their children. Donations of travel size toiletries, school supplies, coloring and activity books, and small toys (such as toy cars or stress balls) are greatly appreciated! (https://hruth.org/)
