[musictlk] 9volt battery in a bass guitar.

Hi I baught  a 1996  Ibanez bass guitar and it was not sounding write
through the amp after I had been playing it for about a month  and when I
took off the back cover plate for the electronics  I was surprised to see a
9 volt battery. have any of you ever seen that before on an electric bass or
6 string guitar? I have never heard of that before.
any way do any of you have a clue as to about how long a battery should last
in this thing?
