Marissa,

Don't go by what you thought. You're wrong, and I'm trying to help 
you to understand. C, d, e, f, g, a, b, and c are the letter names of 
the notes. Obviously, you don't know what a major scale is, regarding 
half steps and whole steps. Look at the white keys on the piano; then 
play from c to c. That's a major scale. Note where there are no keys 
between, hence the half steps.
