Linda is right.  To amend my first explanation, when I said "Put your
tongue on the roof of your mouth" I meant it barely touches.  It's
very light.

You should be able to hear the difference when you just sing a scale
and flip the R on "Re."  When you flip the R, the syllable will often
just sound a lot clearer.  Also, Chris's explanation of adding a quick
D is useful.  In the first part of the flip your tongue will form the
same shape as it does when starting to make a D sound in your mouth,
but only for a split second.  Hope this helps.
