[musictlk] The Circle of Fifths

OH!! Now I remember that! My eighth grade band teacher taught us
that, but I forgot all about it.
How would I find out how many sharps or flats there are quickly?
Say if I were playing a song in the key of d, and I didn't have
time to go through and find out how many sharps there were?
Also, if I went from the key of d and wanted to transpose to the
key of c, easily, what would be the best way to do that?

Hello,
Honestly I'm not sure what those are, they may be an etude from a
book.
Circle of 5ths is:
fcgdaeb
or for flats
beadgcf
What you do for the first numonic is count on your fingers how
many
sharps the key has, then what ever note in the order you land on,
go up
a step in the scale. For example:
1 sharp I would count 1 letter in the first numonic which is f.
>From f I
go up a step to G. I know then that the sharps in f major are f#
and the
key is g.
For 4 sharps I count 4 letters in: fcgd and go up a step to e.
This
means that the key is e and the sharps are f#c#g#d#.
For flats it is a little more simple:
You count the number of flats on your fingers and then subtract
one
number and count the letters and that is your key. The number is
the
flats. For example, 2 flats you go: be, count back one letter
and you
have bb (for the second one all those notes are flat keys). Then
you
know bb and eb are the 2 flats in bb major.
3 flats you count 3 over, bb, eb, ab. You count one back and get
eb,
then you know the key is eb major. You then know that the flats
are bb,
eb and ab in eb major.
For minor scales, just go 3 notes down the scale and you will get
it.
For example, the minor scale with the same sharps as c major is
a. The
same sharp scale that has the same sharps as e is c#.
Just remember that for sharps c major has 0 sharps. For flats f
major
has 1 flat.
thanks,

Because they work. And i don't teach clarinet. Like I said, I
taught
myself. I wouldn't be a good teacher. And I can't teach over
phone.
Honestly, I'm bad at the clarinet either way.

Clarinet. Why couldn't you use your parents phone to do lessons
with
me once or twice a week?

Piano or clarinet?
I have no Skype and no way of getting it. I have no phone. I
just
have the Apex, that's it.
So most likely not.
Also, if I write it as it is, that's fine. But I still need to
label
the scales, and I still need to know how to read it.

I played clarinet, and still do. For two years now.
Practically
taught myself with the help of some friends.
I also teach myself piano with youtube help, or sometimes
playing by
ear, as I am doing so with Pachebel's Canon in C.

I guess I could. You will need to write just like It Is written
In
Braille. Also, what instrument did you play when you were In
band?
Just wondering.
Right back soon,

Hi,
I have a copy of the circle of fifths that we used in band
class, in
braille. The problem is, I don't know how to read it correctly.
It
is in letter notation instead of sheet music. My V-I teacher
made it
for me in eighth grade, since she can read piano music, which
looks
the same as clarinet.
I also want to copy it down on the Apex, so I can send it to a
friend,
but don't want to copy it wrong. The circle of fifths looks
something
like this. The numbers on the side are the measures.
1: d e f-sharp g
2: a b c-sharp d
3: c-sharp b a g
f-sharp e d
5: g a b c
6: d e f-sharp g
7: f-sharp e d c
8: b a g
I also cannot tell which scale is which. I want to label them,
like
this:
c scale
c d e f g a b c
