[musictlk] voice lessons

Hi, Kelsey,

In addition to what has been previously said, I think you may have a
hard time finding a teacher for only once a month because of
scheduling. I know with the teachers I have had that, as great and
understanding musicians and people as they have all been, they would
not have taken me on as a student if I only came to them on a monthly
basis. For at least 3 of the teachers I've studied with, it would
have just been too difficult and not worth the effort to schedule a
student once a month into their routines. For example, the voice
teacher I studied with last year made the time for me on a weekly
basis, but had I only wanted to see her every four weeks she probably
would have said she couldn't do it because it just wouldn't be worth
her time; she sings in opera companies, performs recitals regularly,
and is a clinician and recruitment chair for our music department.
Plus, if I did have her for lessons monthly, and either I had to
cancel or one of us forgot about the lesson due to it not being
routine, I would have had to wait 2 months between lessons. Since she
and I were working on technique, I would not have progressed at that
rate, and I don't think the money or time I would have spent working
on my voice would have been worth it.

Do you have other ways of getting money? Are you on SSI or can you
find a part time job to give yourself a little play mone each week?
You could use this to pay for weekly voice lessons, and transportation
to and from if you need to get yourself there.

Hope this helps.
