[musictlk] Auto harp

Hi Tara,

I do not have absolute pitch. I tune the first octave or so with
the piano, and then theest with the octave I tuned to the piano.

I don't know anything about talking tuners, but they should work.

Yes, you can play melodies on them. In fact, Maybell Carter
(that dates me) held it by placing the flat end on her lap, and
the autoharp leaned against her upper body.

Blessings,

Linda

Thank you! How did you tune the autoharp? Do you have perfect
pitch? I do not. I wonder if the app talking tuner would work to
help me tune the auto Harp. I think I'll download the app and
bring it with me to the music class next week and see if I can
play around with tuning it. Obviously, playing an instrument
that is not in tune is torture! Oh, and I was looking on YouTube
and there's some pretty amazing things you can do with them! You
can actually get them to Play melodies!

 Hi Tara,

I don't own one, but I've had plenty of experience with them.
We had them at the Wisconsin School for the Visually Handicapped,
and one of my jobs was to tune them. I don't know anything about
brands, but, if I were you, I'd get one with the most chord bars
so that you will have the most flexibility as to what keys you
can play and sing in. The autoharp will be the same size whether
you get only 12 chord bars or more. I think they may as many as
21, but I'm not sure on that one. If you purchase one, have lot
of fun!

 Blessings,

 Linda

 Subject: [musictlk] Auto harp

Hey everyone! I recently got my kids signed up for a music
together class. Experience has been absolutely fantastic! My
family I like to get together and play music. My uncle is an
accomplished keyboard player and my dad is an accomplished guitar
player. I like to sing with them and I play flute. At the
class, the instructor was playing and auto harp. I got to look
at it today and I started playing in a little bit. I don't have
perfect pitch. I have decent relative pitch. I can pick
somewhat complicated melodies out by ear. But when it starts to
get into a lot of friends and skills I've got to get somebody to
spell the notes out for me. Anyway, I'm thinking about
purchasing an auto harp so that I can play along with my family.
Do any of you have experience with this instrument? What are your
thoughts and do you have any recommendations for a particular
brand. Is it easy to learn? Like I said, my primary instrument
is the flute. I'm simply wanting to have an instrument that I
can use to learn the so that I can accompany myself and my kids
while we sing the songs that my family likes to sing.
