Hay Steve,
Thanks very much for all your imput. You obviously are the one I need to go to for help. Everything you say about updating the me80 makes sense I guess I just was figuring this thing has been in production for a very long time and it can't contain only what the original did. Its interesting that they still produce it. Again thanks for all the imput.
Bill

Yes the tech has improved since then, but that would require the purchase of a different boss unit and would be in a different price from the ME80. The ME80 is nice because it’s a lot of buttons and knobs etc, but I am not sue it was made to be updated over time, more it was a way to get a lot of boss’s stomp boxes in one unit for a package price. And much like stomp boxes I am not sure there was a lot of updating to that unit.
If you don’t mind the format of an amplifier, the Boss Katana range is accessible via an iOS app and a third party foot switch, and that unit seems to still be updated. The GT-1000/GT-Core is currently the latest and greatest in the boss line along with the GX-100. The GT-1000 software I made some what usable via some macros on MacOS, but it can be a bit fiddly still and I believe even more so on Windows. The GX-100 has a touch screen so I don’t think it’s gotten much consideration.
If you aren’t planning to record, you could just plug headphones into the ME80 and use it that way with out a computer could you not? But yes until you plan to record on the computer the interface and studio monitors is all you will need. Also Reaper is a a great inexpensive option when you are ready to get into recording.
BTW Sweetwater is the only official Behringer dealer in the US so just order it from their site at Sweetwater.com <http://sweetwater.com/>.

Downloadable patches are presets others created and saved on their unit, then uploaded to the boss Tone central site to share it with others. Updates add new features and or bug fixes to the device. Most boss multi effects units support preset or patch sharing, however how accessible the librarian software to manage and copy those patches to your unit will be will be hit or miss.
> Audio interface allows you to connect stuff like the output of the ME80 to the computer . It’s got two inputs on the front, outputs on the back where you plug in the Studio monitors or speakers and connects to the computer via USB. They are also useful if you want to get into recording yourself on the computer as well.

The Behringer 202HD is probably the best bang for the buck option but Focusrite, 2i2 and SSL2+ are good options as well. As for monitors the iLoud Micro monitors are small and doesn’t take up a lot of room and still sound great, but the Kali Audio Lp6’s and Adam T5 are other I hear great things about.
