Feel free to comment any time. if it were obvious, at least to me, I would
not be asking the questions that I do. I know what I know and what I don't
know I ask about. Thanks for sharing. Ok how about another ignorant question
then? would adobe reader be able to read pdf's just as acrobat would?

Perhaps this was obvious, but the version of Acrobat X that Jim is referring
to is the version that can
be used to create PDFs and is not free. As I understand it, though, it does
what he says it does.
Also, both OmniPage and FineReader will do OCR on PDFs, too, but they are
also not free. The point of
mentioning OmniPage, FineReader, Open Book, or K-1000, is that often people
own these programs but don't
realize they can use them to deal with PDFs that are scanned. Probably none
of these are worth buying
for only that purpose even though they would work.
