I got certified in braille transcription and was still out of work. So now, I work at a bank. I started off in the switchboard at the call center. Then got the pink goodbye see you later we're illiminating the switchboard position notice and applied elsewhere in the bank. I moved to be an administrative assistant and now have been promoted to Learning coordinator. With my own office! What I tell others who are blind and are looking for work, have an updated resume, and when you go into the interview, sell yourself! Tell the companies "Here's what I can do for you." They are more inclined to give you a chance. Tell them why you think they should hire you. I did, and it paid off! I know some companies give us opposition in interviews because we're blind. I ran into that when I applied to other positions in the bank. However, when I showed them an inch thick document as to why they should hire me, gave a presentation, they couldn't refuse me. If they did, it would've been their loss. I use jaws, a 3-in-one printer/copier/scanner, etc.

     Christy

You can get more in the field of customer service I'm nationally
certified took a free workshop called customer service skills at a local
one -stop career center in my city, and I passed and received not only a
certificate from the Mt. Diablo Adult Ed School, but I received a
certificate from the National Retail Federation Foundation and a letter
for the prospective employer. You might check into that possibility. You
can work in call centers hotels insurance companies answering telephones
and inputing data into tkhe computer. I'm currently on a job hunt right
now in this field and will keep you all posted as well.

What equipment is required? I would also like information about other transcription careers. my bachelor's degree is in general studies. Would the salary for these careers be enough to provide for my two children/ I live in a small town north of Amarillo Texas. Could I find employment in one of these careers where i live? Thank you.
