I too took this class and did a lot of the work orally.  I used my own 
symbles to represent what I needed, wrote it out on my braillenote and had 
it right in front of me when the problem was read to me.  I then was able to 
keep track of what was on the page and dictate back the correct response. 
In a course like this, a lot of the time, good focus in class cuts back 
vastly on the need for a book, and so does a supportive professor or TA.
