Serena,

You say there are no contractions in Spanish braille.

I don't think we know that for sure. It would be more accurate to say that 
there are no contractions in American Spanish braille.

I bet that if you go to Mexico, and Spain, and south-american countries, 
they will use contractions in their braille.

I am Brazilian, and I know with as certainty as I have about being alive 
that there absolutely is a contracted portuguese braille. There is just no 
reason for Americans studying portuguese to make a practice of learning it 
when they learn portuguese.

They will need contacts in Brazil or portugal to guide them through how to 
write abbreviated Portuguese braille.

I don't hold you to the fire on this one, but way too many times I heard 
people say that English is the only language with abbreviated braille. this 
is a real narrow view of braille in the world today.
